Weighing in at 5000g and measuring 95cm long when folded up, the Vango Embrace camping chair is intended for car-camping or other situations when you don’t need to worry about weight and portability. Comfort and spaciousness are the priority here. It feels like a portable armchair, and you could probably sit in this chair all day in total comfort. A generous seat height of 48cm and seat width of 60cm allows you to sit straight and spread out as much as you need. I can even manage to sit cross-legged in this chair.

The seat is heavily cushioned throughout, giving a soft yet supportive feel. This is a warm chair thanks to this cushioning, and makes sitting outside in cold conditions more pleasant than when using a lightweight chair. The chair’s weight and the wide leg-frame ensures that stability feels rock-solid in all directions. It also makes it safer to leave this chair outside on breezy days without worrying about it blowing over.

James Roddie’s verdict

Overall this is a cosy and spacious chair, which will appeal to car-campers looking for maximum comfort. At £90 it is also more affordable than many ultralight options.

Unfolding the Vango Embrace is quick and very easy. Folding it away to store in its carry bag is a slightly different matter however. A velcro wrap-around is included for storing the chair in the carry bag, but it requires substantial force to fold the chair enough to fit within the wrap-around. Some users may find this difficult.

I have concerns about the overall durability of this chair. The materials do not feel particularly high quality, and the metal around the leg-frame joints were showing signs of heavy wear after only a few uses. This may just be an issue with the sample I tested however. Some people might also expect a cup holder to be included in a chair of this type.
