This Zamberlan is not a women’s specific boot but I have included it in the test because I know women who wear them and swear by them (plus, they are currently my husband’s favourite footwear). The usual problem for women wearing unisex (which means men’s) boots is that the heel box is too big; in the Crosser Plus, the reinforced heel counter gives a positive fit and, to my surprise, my heels never lifted in them. The overall shape is quite narrow (although with a roomy toe box) and long: at least 1cm more than the other test boots. They were slightly too long for me, which affected the toe flex, and the footbed was somewhat flat. Fit aside: the joy of these boots is the extremely low weight, which immediately adds to dexterity. The tough yet light Cordura upper has a Kevlar-reinforced rand and rubber toe, making them rock-proof and supple. The sole unit has deep, wide-spaced lugs with enough heel edge to really grip. They are efficient and positive on every surface and have been used scrambling, hiking, snowshoeing and for via ferrata. Lacing runs smoothly from toe, via a heel pull, to two ankle loops. The cuff covers my ankle, with the soft tongue just above it. Comfort is supreme from the box. A fabulous boot, if the fit is correct for your feet.
