Chris Townsend reviews a quality sleeping bag with water-resistant down and a reasonable price
The Talus TSII isn’t quite as light as some of the bags providing similar warmth but it does cost considerably less, making it excellent value for money. It’s filled with water-resistant down and has a water-resistant shell so it’s a good choice for damp places. There are side walls to ensure the down lofts fully. The inner neck collar extend rounds the rim of the hood so the latter feels snug without the drawcord having to be very tight. The zip has one of the best anti-snag strips I’ve used plus a thick baffle.
The fit is described as ‘relaxed mummy’, which means it’s a bit roomier than bags like the Firelite but not as wide as the Exped Lite. I could easily wear insulated clothing inside but didn’t feel as though there were cold spots to warm up.
The down is certified by the Responsible Down Standard and so comes from birds that have been reared humanely.
