I’ve worn these a few times this summer but even in the unseasonal weather I’ve found them a little bit on the warm side. In autumn and winter they will be fantastic trousers to wear on the hill. The Marmot M3 softshell fabric is very stretchy and it’s also water resistant and breathable, making the trousers very comfortable to wear. And to my delight these trousers have a relatively close fit – I suppose you could describe it as an athletic or performance fit – but they don’t feel at all restrictive. They come with a variety of features including zipped hand pockets, which I’m not too keen on, a zipped thigh pocket, a zipped rear pocket and an elasticated waist. They also have ankle zips, which are apparently designed so you can take the trousers off when wearing your boots. I’ve never worked out why anyone would want to do that but you never know, there may be those among us who enjoy taking their trousers off and wandering up the hill in their underpants. Each to his own…
