Anyone familiar with the quality and engineering expertise demonstrated by Meindl’s footwear won’t be surprised to find that there’s a similar level of quality also available in the Meindl MT6 hiking sock. Indeed, a combination of both Meindl socks and boots is a happy pairing indeed.

A slightly weightier mid-weight sock, the Meindl MT6 balances generous merino wool content with performance synthetics, including bioceramic crystals in the lining, designed to enhance comfort and improve insulation. They are a cosy and comfortable sock right from the off, with an almost decadent level of sumptuous softness, meaning they are spot on for all year round use and perfect for cold weather hikes, but possibly a bit on the warm side for out and out summer walking. With shaped left and right feet, and a design that secures the fit at the instep, they stay put nicely in use, with little or no irritating movement of fabric, while the levels of cushioning underfoot which compress very little are perfect for maintaining comfort even with a weighty pack.

The looped surface of the interior of the sock, combined with the merino/synthetic mix of the fabric makes for a great balance of temperature maintenance with moisture wicking, keeping my feet warm but not sweaty over long periods of time. Thanks to this and to merino’s odour fighting capabilities, these would be an excellent option for long treks where multiple wears might be required between washes. The inner surface also fluffs up nicely after a good wash too, rejuvenating the socks effectively back to as-new. There’s no doubt in my mind that these will continue to be fit for purpose for a long period of time if looked after, giving continued reliable comfort and performance.

These are in line with the per-pair price of most similarly technical trekking socks, but are also available with a 10% saving and free postage for a three-pack from Meindl direct.
