On Saturday 23 April walkers in Cumbria set out on a march in protest against plans for new pylons in the Lake District National Park.

Friends of the Lake District joined forces with local group Power Without Pylons to organise the walk in aid of the Say No to Pylons in the Lake District campaign. Setting off from Silecroft walkers crossed Black Combe and the Duddon Valley.

Along the route campaign supporters were able to view the proposed siting of the pylons and were talked through the potential impact they might have. The proposed route runs 24km from Seascale to Dalton-in-Furnass.

A public consultation will held by National Grid later this year in order to gather suggestions of areas the project should avoid and to hear views on the various options that could be used to make the connection – with the potential for underground cables to be discussed.
