Lakeland in Colour with photographer Dave Fieldhouse

“The sky had disappointed me on this particular morning, so I decided to turn my attention closer to the ground. On occasions when the elements don’t suit the wider vista it is always worth looking for a micro landscape like this. The colours of the pale frosty reeds worked well against the water in the river, which was cast blue by the cloudless sky above.”

“With the sun being much lower in the sky during the autumn and winter months it is possible to take photographs all day. I had stopped in a layby to have my lunch when I noticed the light on the farmhouse and fields and knew an image was there for the taking. A rural scene in one of my favourite parts of the UK.”

“A perfectly still lake with just a trace of mist above the surface. A combination thats high on most landscape photographers wish lists. ‘Lord Island’ on Derwent Water was looking particularly resplendent in its autumn coat so I decided to make a panorama comprising several images stitched together using software once I returned home.”

“A glimpse of rural life in the Cumbrian Lake District. So long as you kept one eye on the sky for the showers (and there were many, trust me), it was the perfect day to dry your washing. The light on the fells was what drew me to this scene, but I decided at the last minute to incorporate the human element into the picture to create a totally different story. I like it when a photograph tells or suggests a story.”
