The Montane Dart Long Sleeved T-shirt is made from hardwearing 100% recycled polyester, making it an environmentally friendly choice. The synthetic materials, plus a clever dual layer pique construction, ensure excellent wicking performance. It dries quickly even when next to the skin in horrible weather. The Dart saw some pretty extreme testing conditions this spring and did the job for me over a couple of days of sideways rain, gales, and even a night out, when my hardshell layers had pretty much given up and my midlayers had also gone soggy.

TGO Magazine verdict

This is a pretty old-school style synthetic base layer, but it is hard to beat because it works in any conditions and is available at a price that makes it affordable for most people.

The Montane Dart Long Sleeved T-shirt fabric is treated with an antimicrobial Polygiene treatment, which helps with the nasty odours that can plague synthetic base layers, by supressing bacterial growth, However, it doesn’t handle odours as well as merino, which for me is a minor consideration in the face of exceptional performance.

There are no bells and whistles here. The design is simple, with flat locked seams and a crew neck, and that’s about it. The fit and sizing is exactly what I would expect of a size 12, and the smooth face fabric slides under other layers easily. It is light enough to be worn on its own in summer, as well forming the base of a winter layering system, although it doesn’t offer as much insulation as some long-sleeved base layers.

This is a pretty old-school style synthetic base layer, but it is hard to beat because it works in any conditions and is available at a price that makes it affordable for most people.
