The Berghaus Ground Attack Active hiking shoes have a narrow fit across the forefoot and slightly on the narrow side for me, although not enough to significantly affect comfort. The uppers are made from lightweight 50% recycled polyester mesh, and are breathable enough despite the Gore-Tex liner. However, I have not been able to test them in hot conditions. The uppers also have accents in a synthetic leather-like material for durability, but the rands are minimal and unlikely to provide much long-term protection.

The sole unit is good, with widely spaced aggressive lugs, and should prove durable. They feel secure on a wide variety of terrain.

The overall feel of the Berghaus Ground Attack Active shoes is soft, comfortable, slipper-like… and that translates to an easy-going fit on the hill, ideal if you’re used to lightweight shoes. They feel stable enough for general hillwalking on trails, although there’s just enough slop to make them feel less secure on rough off-path ground (despite the grippy soles). They feel even less positive on scrambles, although they’re ok on easier routes.

If you’re looking for lightweight shoes for general hillwalking, these will do the job well – and at a very decent price.
