The Zamberlan Salathe Trek GTX RR hiking boots are a really an impressively lightweight boot option. The looks won’t appeal to everyone and they are on the pricey side but there’s no arguing with their performance. Looking every inch the modern alpine hiking boot, with climbing shoe style asymmetric pointed toe and protective toe rand, these come in an impressive variety of colour options, all with the funky graphics that you’ll love or hate.

Lara Dunn’s Highly Recommended

These are an exceptionally comfortable, supportive, capable and well-designed pair of boots and I would have happily awarded them 5 stars if it hadn’t been for that price. They are a solid investment.

Somewhat surprisingly, since Zamberlan produce numerous styles using a dedicated female-specific last, these boots are built on a unisex one. That said, the fit and shape seem to be female friendly anyway, and I have encountered no issues with heel lift or slippage, finding them to be extremely comfortable straight from the box.  The light weight makes them an absolute joy to wear and when coupled as it is with a fairly stiff sole (but not too stiff for a natural gait), nicely supportive ankle cuff and comprehensive lacing system right down to the toes, they are spot on for everything from day walks to scrambles and alpine hikes, whether fast and light or with a heavier load. These are the boots I’ll be packing for a week in Austria later this year. The outsoles are well-suited to a variety of terrain and conditions and also shed mud effectively, while the protective asymmetric toe make leaping from rock to rock weirdly appealing.

In addition to a waterproof suede upper, Gore-Tex lining and Vibram sole, these also go some way to justifying their extra cost with the inclusion of a RECCO reflector, making it easier for rescue services equipped with a receiver to locate the wearer if needed. It’s a feature I hope I never need but I’m happy to have it included here.

These are an exceptionally comfortable, supportive, capable and well-designed pair of boots and I would have happily awarded them 5 stars if it hadn’t been for that price. They are a solid investment though.
