The Discovery Lite is a basic envelope shaped bivi bag with a long zip round the head

This means there’s no opening on the top of the bag, which is good for keeping out rain. However the flap over the zip is only 4cms deep. A wider one would be better. As the zip runs right round the head the bag opens wide, making getting in and out easy. However the zip pullers are small and dark, which means finding them from inside can be difficult.

Attaching longer, pale-coloured ones is a good idea. The upper fabric is adequately breathable while the floor, made from the same material as that on Terra Nova tents, should prove durable. The Discovery Lite is slightly tapered but there’s still plenty of room for a sleeping mat and winter sleeping bag inside. Other gear has to stay outside. The weight and packed bulk of the Discovery Lite are low.

The price is quite high but this is the only bag tested that combines a Gore-Tex fabric and a zipped opening with such a light weight.
