Generator feels like the best of all worlds: it almost handles like down, thanks to supersoft PrimaLoft One insulation, but has the performance benefi ts of synthetic (it doesn’t lose thermal qualities when wet, is easy-care and dries rapidly). Outer shell is ultra-light Pertex Quantum in 15 denier (which I love), keeping weight to a minimum while off ering an element of wind resistance. The close cut allows plenty of bust room, with a hem shockcord if it needs cinching in at the hips (it doesn’t on me). Armholes are elastane bound and deep enough over a mid-layer. Zipped side pockets are fleece-lined on one face for hand warming and a large chest pocket on the inside doubles as a stuff -sack. A brushed lining on the collar doesn’t extend completely to the sides but does feature on the chinguard, making it comfortable against skin and avoiding breath/sweat clamminess. I was disappointed to find the collar too snug over a zip-neck mid-layer; if it was a little wider it’d fit over mid and even shell layers, and be the perfect winter gilet.
