Vaude’s waterproof overtrousers are reviewed as part of a comparative test between seven of the latest offerings on the market

I like some of the design features on these trousers by VauDe, but was disappointed to find wet patches around my knees after a prolonged spell of rain. I think it was blown in through the zips, because they aren’t sufficiently protected by the outer flap (nor the inner either).

The Yaras rain pants are actually designed with cycling in mind, with an extra patch on the backside and Velcro straps up each calf. I liked the straps as they stopped the trousers swishing against each other.

The thin and lightweight 2.5-layer fabric with a polyurethane coating and polyamide face is eco-friendly (Bluesign approved). The zips are full-length and two-way, though there’s also a partially zipped version (£80). I was disappointed that the semi-elastic waist has no drawcord for further adjustment.
