Chris Townsend reviews a low-cost windshell without a hood.

This review is part of our windshells gear guide, and was first published in the April 2018 issue of The Great Outdoors.

The Addison Park is quite light and the price is low. It keeps the wind out and if that’s all you want this windbreaker is fine. However the Rab Vital has a better design and does those things too at a lower cost and a slightly lower weight.

The Addison Park fabric is soft and comfortable, and it’s not as shiny as some nylons. The design of this windbreaker is basic. The hood just has an elasticated rim and can not be adjusted at all. It’s also quite big, and therefore falls over my eyes if I’m not wearing a hat. It also blows back off my head in strong winds.

The pockets are quite roomy, but they lie underneath a pack hipbelt. Neither the cuffs nor the hem can be adjusted. The Large size fits fine over a fleece.
