This is a superb, fully featured softshell jacket designed as an Alpine outer layer. The Scimitar uses two different wind- and shower-resistant materials – a heavier one around the shoulders and top of the hood. The main fabric is a very stretchy and comfortable material. The side pockets are at mid level and not covered by a hipbelt. They also – designers take notice – are large and extend up as well as down. They easily swallow a map. There’s a smaller chest pocket on the left that will easily hold a phone and snacks etc. The arms are long and the cuffs are very wide with a Velcro fastener: great for ventilation (the large side pockets are mesh on the inside so that can help cool you down too). The cut is long and the fit quite generous. The hood is easily the best here with a stiffened and wired peak and easily adjustable. Simply a great softshell.
