Chris Townsend examines the some of hillwalking’s most useful garments. On test the Mammut Broad Peak Gilet

The Broad Peak is a comfortable warm gilet filled with top quality down and with a windproof and shower resistant Pertex shell. There are warm lower pockets with reversed zips, a filled baffle behind the main zip, a high warm collar and fleece chin guards. My only dislike is for the armhole elastication which isn’t stretchy enough. Mammut says it has a ‘regular fit’ but the Large size tested was on the small side. The fabrics are Bluesign approved and so environmentally friendly. The Broad Peak can be stuffed into its left-hand pocket for carrying (there’s a zip puller inside the pocket).
