Pete’s Eats has not closed down

On Friday, rumours began circulating on social media that Pete’s Eats, the legendary Llanberis café, had closed down. But The Great Outdoors can confirm this is not the case
It all started when @JBMtnSkills posted an image on Twitter of a sign pinned up in the window at Pete’s Eats café. The sign read:
“PETE’S EATS HAS CLOSED DOWN
“It is with regret I have decided to close Pete’s Eats as it has become unmanageable with too many underlying problems.
“I have become very unwell with the stress as have many of the staff.
“Thank you for your support over the years. – Pete”
The response on social media was immediate, with an outpouring of support for the famous mountain café. Pete’s Eats – which was awarded Café of the Year in the 2016 TGO Awards – is a well-loved place for hillwalkers, climbers, mountain-bikers and kayakers in North Wales to sit down for a pint of tea and a cake. The generous portions are legendary.
However, the plot thickened when a further sign was posted a little while later by the same Twitter account, saying that the café would be open as usual from 30 September.

The facts

The Great Outdoors contacted Pete’s Eats for a statement, and received this reply from Pete Norton:

“Thanks for the many great mentions in your magazine. I am supposed to be retired but we have been experiencing some severe managerial problems. A committed group of young staff havbe stepped up to the mark and are keeping the cafe open, great to see! I am past my sell-by date!”

So we’re very happy to be able to confirm that Pete’s Eats has not closed down. Your pint of tea and bacon sandwich after a day on Snowdon are safe!
