The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE), has announced that it will be opening its doors to adult challengers – but for one weekend only.
On Saturday 30 September and Sunday 1 October 2017 the scheme will be hosting a hike and overnight camp in the Peak District that will be open to over 18s of any ability.
Following a sign-posted route or self-navigating, teams or individuals can choose from a one-day 25km hike or a two-day one of 50k. There’ll also be an overnight stay at a ‘base camp’ where there will be tents, campfires, hot showers and entertainment.
For the one-day hike, the registration fee starts from £85 and there’s a fundraising target of £150. For the two-day version there’s a £100 entry fee and a £200 fundraising target.
“We are very excited to be launching an adventure for adults this year,” said Peter The DofE’s Chief Executive. “So much of the feedback we get from DofE alumni is that ‘there’s nothing quite like the DofE’ and we feel ideally placed to carry on the expedition experience into adulthood and get Britain loving adventure again.”
