Meindl’s latest boot, specially made for the UK and Ireland, has a one piece leather upper – there’s just one seam on the side plus a sewn heel reinforcement – and should prove durable. The sole grips well and the cushioning is good under the heel
though it feels a little hard under the forefoot. The toe looks narrow and pointed but the boots are wider than they appear and are only slightly tight on me. The lacing holds them firmly around the instep and ankle. There’s a fair amount of foam round the inside of the ankle and heel which could, along with the Gore-Tex membrane, make them a little too warm in hot weather. The weight is on the high side for this type of boot but the price is lower than many similar models.
